So I just moved in a new computer into my place, well it's used but new to the apartment. Anyway I'm trying to hook up my internet to it and it's not working for some reason, it says that it can't read the IP Address but shouldn't it find that automatically? Just so you know I'm connecting it directly from the modem to the computer and I'm sure the connection works because we've had it on another computer before. Any help or ideas?

Alright new problem and this one I have no idea how to even begin. My sound doesn't work on the computer. I've tried 3 different sets of speakers none work. I tried configuring the sound differently from the computer, nothing. I get to the main volume control and it says no sound device connected, it doesn't even know when the speakers are plugged in. If you can solve this problem I'll award you 300!!! Reputation points, or more if you insist. I just really want sound, thanks guys.

I am guessing something to do with your sound card. That is where your speakers are plugging into. Did they work before the move? Maybe during the move it got bumped a bit some dell's have a quick attach with clips it could have gotten bumped loose out of the socket. Try opening it and pulling the sound card out and then putting it back in. Try and see if your computer see's the sound card in device manager first though. Just some ideas not really sure unless I saw it or got some more info.

Thanks for caring Rhino, I'll try opening it up if this device manager thing doesn't work. Where do I find how to see if the computer see's my sound card? And yeah it used to work but it stopped when I wasn't around so I suspect someone did something and didn't tell me.

Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>It should show up under audio devices

Did you happen to delete your sound driver?

That is possible as well. Not sure what system you are running but you can usually look for drivers with XP. I think you can get to it through the device manager when you look at properties perhaps.

You can look through the list of drivers through the control panel. A while back I deleted Sound Blaster because the name sounded funny at it so happened that was my sound driver.

Alright thanks a lot guys, still havn't figured it out but here's what I can find. Rhino when I do that it tells me there's No Audio Device. Thryx I know I didn't deleted but it's possible somebody else did. I am using XP but I can't seem to find a list of Drivers, even in Control Panel. Really appreciate the attempts guys, don't give up.

You should have a driver disk that came with your computer for your sound card and what not. If not have your tried to open up your computer and make sure it is in the socket all the way. It should be recognizing it with a driver or without one I think.

Yeah I don't have the CD for the sound card at least not with me right now. I'll try taking it apart today and see if that works. Thanks Rhino.

You can usually download the driver through the companies site.

Oh yeah? Sweet! How do I find what the companies website is, or even what kind of sound card I have. I noticed all my Hardware in the Sound and Audio Devices Properties are working properly apparently, it's just the Volume section that there's no Audio Device Detected. Does that help at all?

Okie here goes ;)
Go to Start-Control Pannel-Device Manager
Look for your Audio/Sound device. Expand the box and it will show you what kind of sound card you have. www.google.com "(Name of your sound card here) drivers". If the sounds card has a version number make sure you install the correct driver for that version.
