The main computer in my house already has my cousins laptop connected to it and I just got one for myself the geek squad said they installed virus protection stuff at their store and they said since my main computer already has the um...whatever it has that connects it wirelessly to my cousins laptop that I could go home turn mine on and surf the web but I can't and that seemed way to easy. I know it's easy and common sense for most thats why I just post here instead of reading manuals, and because I'm lazy I'm sorry...um +rep for help I guess:)

It just doesn't connect to internet and when it offers other connections it doesn't offer the ones atmy house they are like random connections that have no bars and say they are password protected anyway. Also I tried to watch a movie I put it in the tray and it goes to quicktime but quicktime tells me there is no dvd in the tray but I can visually verify a dvd is certainly in the tray and spinning so I don't get it? Thanks much any help would be clutch.

You need a wireless modem to feed off your own connection. Also you need a wireless adapter inserted into your laptop through it's USB port.

first make sure you have your wireless adapter with will either come in your laptop or like thryx said insert it in you USB port

if you have one find a spare ethernet cable and plug it in the bak of your router which should be connected to your modem - there should be 5 ports you should be able to plug it into - then plug it into you laptop to make sure it is working properly - this way the laptop is not recieving it wirelessly. if this works it much be that you dont have the right adapter that is compatible with you router or something is wrong with the computer

hope this helps
