Sounds like your "explorer.exe" isn't running. Is there any sort of error message that you get? Also, does that happen every time you boot your PC?

Well, this isn't good at all. I've seen this come up before and so far the only cure that I have found is to reinstall Windows.

Before you do that though, do you have Norton CleanSweep installed? There has been a problem before where it has conflicted with the Task Bar (aka Start Bar) and caused it to not load correctly.

haha you were talking about this the other night Mike I just thought you were insane.

Rocketr is right it's probally explorer.exe not running. Try ALT+CTRL+DEL and then going to processes to see if it's running. If it is right click on it and click End Process Tree once it is gone from the processes list go to File-Run and type explorer.exe

Even if this does work it's most likely a temporary fix, you can try writing down the exact error message then searching www.microsoft.com help section for a resolution.

Yep, that's what it's supposed to do. :P Now, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL again and do as he said after that. File --> Run --> Type in explorer.exe

Yeah, I'm afraid that looks to be your best bet right now. As always, make sure you backup your files just in case something were to happen. Oh and make sure you don't re-format your HD when you install then surely all of your files will be gone forever. :P

When you re-install windows it gives you 2 options. One option is to recover. The other option is to reformatt. You want to recover i believe. If you reformat your erasing everything on the computer and make it brandnew again. if you recover all your doing is re-installing windows and keeping everything that you have on it.
