Ok, so I've got about -90 exp points against my account. I've never quit a game early, stopped playing, or even turned off my xbox no matter what was happening. But I get kicked out of rooms all the time. Idk if it's my internet or what it is, but I lose connection way too often. I've got roadrunner and use a netgear gateway in my apt. There are 3 ppl that live with me, but we usually will only have a computer and the xbox on at any time. So it's not that we're overloading the connection or anything. Anyone have any advice?

We've noticed grim, you're on the top 10 list of quitters at Halo3.junk.ws :(
It maybe an issue with your NAT or MTU settings. Do you ever get warning when entering MM?
Go back to your Dashboard-System Settings-Test XBL Connection and see if you get an error during the MTU test or if your NAT is not set to Open.

I was just about to say that Envy
Envy, how do you change your NAT?
OcR Envy

Your NAT is controlled by Port Fowarding/uPnP in your router settings.

Sry, i'm a noob when it comes to computers.
How do you get to your router settings?

All depends on your router type check here:

Typically you type in 192.168.1.1 into your browser to get to your router. Your best bet would be to follow the link Envy provided so they can give specific instructions. If you have a Linksys router though, let me know and I should be able to help you out there as I have had some previous experience with them. :)

sometimes you just need to restart your router and modem like unplug then plug it back in.

well i tried the port forwarding and for the past day it's been working alright...i've been getting disconnected still just not when i'm in a game or about to start one...usually happens after playing so I guess I'm going to have to take rocketr's advice and contact Roadrunner and try to get a different gateway/router....it's really annoying that I can't even play at my own apartment without getting some many exp. points taken away but hopefully that will be solved soon

If your renting your router go buy one. Renting is a huge rip off anyways.

I mean I'm using the router provided by my internet service, which is the Netgear one, and I got them to just bring another one because I have a linksys at my house which I could bring but there is a cable modem hookup which IDT I have on my linksys one. I got the new gateway/router today and now it keeps failing the DNS test, which IDK why, so I guess I've put myself in a worse situation. :realmad:

I think I'm just going to go out and buy my own router/gateway i guess...anyone have any suggestions? It's got to have a cable hookup because I use digital cable service through roadrunner...I kinda like the linksys but I'm not really sure

What's your price range?

I'm not really sure I mean I'll pay pretty much whatever it takes to get a good one...I know they are from like $60 up to like $120 but I'm pretty much willing to pay however much it takes

Alright, so I went researching for a modem for you and I found this one to be loved by many, many users.
Motorola SURFboard SB5120 (Retails for $80, but on Amazon.com it is $52.99)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BR6WRM/ref=nosim/?tag=cnet-ce-20&creative=380333&creativeASIN=B000BR6WRM&linkCode=asn
Now, I realize that you had a gateway type modem that also includes a router, but in my past experiences those are usually crap. It would be much better in the long run for you to get a router. I'm not sure if you're going to be using wireless that much but just a plain wired router is going to be cheaper than buying a wireless one (although not that much cheaper now since the prices are going down). Also, I looked for ones that are tested to be XBL compatible so that we won't have to worry about those problems. More often than not it's a router that needs to have its firmware updated which I can help you with. Here are a couple of options:
D-Link DGL-4100 Broadband Gaming Router (Retails for $120) - Amazon.com again had the best price
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006TIA0C?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=dealtime-ce-feed-20&linkCode=asn
Now if you're needing wireless, this one's good as well.
D-Link DGL-4300 Wireless 108G Gaming Router (Retails for $150)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0006TIA02?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=dealtime-ce-feed-20&linkCode=asn
The reason I only list these two is because they are Xbox Live Compatible and will surely last you a long time with the Gigabit Ethernet routing, yet the wireless will be outdated in a few years when the 802.11n becomes the standard. I use a Linksys which has had it's fair share of NAT problem, but the quality is still good. It is very hard to find the correct version of Linksys hardware (they use the same product name but different versions of product) that is XBL compatible so that's why I can't really recommend it to you. :P
Let me know if you need any more information or if you'd like to maybe not get something so pricey.

I think that the motorola one is the only one that will work...because I've got to have the actual cable plug in on the router because that's how mine connects initially. I will try to get that modem off amazon but right now I've just gotten a temporary fix by hooking up a linksys to the gateway as a router in essence

The modem is how it connects to your cable, but the router is what "routes" your internet connection to other places so you can have more than one thing hooked up at a time. You'll need both if you want to connect more than one PC/Xbox 360 to the internet at a time since the modem isn't a gateway.

well i mean the gateway/router/modem..whatever it is that the netgear is....it requires that I have the cable hooked in because there's no other way which the internet service would be getting connected to the internet
OcR ROCKETR

Correct, that's how it works. :) The cable modem is the Motorola that I sent you and that is what you plug into the cable in your wall and that gives you one Ethernet port out. Your Netgear is a modem and router (otherwise known as a gateway) and it serves both purposes.
If you got one of the routers I mentioned then you would plug that one Ethernet cable into the back of it and there will be 4 other ports that allow you to connect 4 other PCs/Xbox 360s/etc to the internet. :)
