This is a problem I've not yet encountered on XBL. Whenever I turn on my console, it connects fine to Live, I can browse through stuff, I can download demos or videos uninterrupted, but whenever I go into a MM lobby and start a game, my connection to the internet is lost, on my laptop and xbox. I've tried turning my laptop off, and then trying to play Halo, no difference. I've been able to get into 2 games, one in Rumble Pit, one in Social Slayer, but all others I've gotten booted out of. I've lost like 8 exp today, just from forfeits, and I am sick of leaving people on those teams with an empty roster slot, so does anyone know any tricks to help me out? I've gone through Microsoft's crappy online help and I couldn't find anything like this.

My NAT is set to open, and this is a brand new replacement console from microsoft. I run my internet through a basic Netgear router that works perfect for wireless to the laptop, no interruptions. Thanks in advance for anyone that wants to help me ponder my way through this. I really want to level up my THC, so quick help would be appreciated!!!

It may just be Live but that's really odd that your laptop's connection just stops randomly. I had the exact same problem of dropping out. I lost about 5 EXP in one night just trying to play with my friends. It would go all the way to the Setting Up game screen and then drop me right after that. I stopped playing for the past couple days because it pissed me off. I wish I could say what you could do, but I'm not sure either.

Well, if it's not just a local problem, I'll just go take my dog on a walk or something. I was just thinking I was missing something and being an idiot. I was just psyched that I was finally going to be able to play again, then this lame shit happens. It's almost like my computer is changing the IP address out from under my xbox, but that doesn't make any sense at all.

But what you described rocketr is exactly what was happening. i'd get that far, and then my connection would fail, and then the only way to get reconnected to XBL would be to turn my 360 off and then on again.

Yeah, give your ISP a call. If your laptop is losing connection I could very well see how its the ISPs fault.

Could be an issue with your MTU size. If it's a router look for the MTU setting and set it too 1500 or so. I've noticed that Network Test in your dashboard isn't all that realiable btw.

That sucked. I went in and checked everything and now it seems like my connection fails after 2 games instead of before. It's getting frustrating since my ISP denies it's a problem on their end. I just played a couple games in rumble pit and it wasn't laggy or anything, perfect connection, and then it failed when it was launching my third game. I did go +13 though, so that made me a bit happy. At this point I'm thinking of getting a new gateway, although I think it's a problem with my MTU setting now. Anybody know how to change this?

You'll have to go into your router settings at the local IP address for you which is typically " 192.168.1.1 " . Type exactly that into your browser and you will get a login box. Login with your router login (if you haven't already made one, it's usually
Login: admin Password: admin)

From there you can search around to see where your MTU settings are. If you have a Linksys. It's usually there on the "Home" page.

Xbox Live requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364, so your router or gateway's MTU must be greater than or equal to 1365. If it's less than 1365 you won't be able to connect to Xbox Live. Once you find the MTU setting, enter in a value of 1365 or above. It's a safe bet with 1500 like Envy said.

ROCKETR, you were SO close to what the fix was. I called my ISP back ready to pull the plug on their shitty service and instead got connected to a younger guy who happened to be a gamer. Instead of signing in as "admin" I had to sign in as "superuser" on my IP. Netgear has a feature on their routers that prevents against DoS (Denial of Service) attacks and other crap like that, but it also prevents you from receiving large packets of info, like Halo3 over Live. It's a box that says "Firewall Features". Not actually the firewall, just some "benefits" of that particular router. That was why I could download demos and stuff, but couldn't game over live, is just the amount of info at once. After that I had to enable UPnP and set it up so that I could play for long periods of time.

Just tested it. Was able to party up with a friend and play 4 games in a row without interruption. Thanks for all of your help guys!

No problem, now if only I could figure out why mine is so crapped up. :P
