I'm bored...

This is one of my favorite topics to discuss. To me, the 5 greatest athletes ever are...

1. Michael Jordan
2. Mohammad Ali
3. Wayne Gretzky
4. Pete Sampras
5. Willie Mays

I'm not saying that this is the best all-around baseball player of all time, but in my opinion.. Nolan Ryan, I think is one of the best pitchers of all time....

Basketball - not too up to date or know much about it... but i'd say Michael Jordan

Football- I'm gonna have to go Walter Payton on this one...

Nascar - umm the one who makes the best left turns? (lmao ballin jg)

Golf- Tiger Woods ( cause it's really the only one i know)

Boxing - I agree with MYK on this one...

Don't get me wrong michael jordan was amazing but he would loose a game when he scored like 60 points because his team sucked.

Tidalwave are you talking about the Bulls who were the greatest Dynasty of all-time? that hold the record for best season at 72-10? oh wait must be a different team you are talking about....

1. Tiger Woods - no one has ever been as sport changing or as dominant as he is at their particular sport (and he is just moving into his prime, it's scary)
2. Michael Jordan - Ultimate Team Player and was truly just amazing to watch
3. Gretzky - only slightly behind Jordan, game-changing just like Woods
4. Bo Jackson - anyone who doesn't know him he was dominant in both Baseball and Football
5. Barry Sanders - Untouchable, amazing to watch
6. Michael Johnson - Fastest Man Ever

Future Pick: LeBron James, watch the guy play a 4th quarter just once you'll know what I'm talking about

if you put barry sanders and payton beside each other, it's almost identical with their running styles... quick and powerful... simply awesome

Braaterz
02-21-2008, 02:06 AM
yea Barry would have been greater he was just on a crappy team and his whole retirement was a mistake...sad to think about what could have been

OcR Nightmare
02-21-2008, 02:14 AM
i will say that sanders didn't have the offensive line or other weapons that payton had to work with... but barry sanders did make a whole lot of people miss.... it was fun to watch... :D

MJ was arguably the greatest individual NBA player. However if I was designing a team I would've started with Magic Johnson. He had individual skills but elevated the play of the entire team around him.

Peyton and Jackson were great RB's but where's the QB love. Joe Montana always seemed to get the win. Although being from So Cal I hate the 9ner's.

Baseball: I'd have to go with Hammerin' Hank Arron. Sadly I'm old enough to remember watching the game where he passed Babe Ruth's HR record.

Hockey: They call him "the great one" for a reason and it pisses Gordie Howe off every time.

Golf: It's not even close, Tiger is in another world. He may not break all of Jack's records but the talent level then from now isn't comparable.

Well Pete Rose certainly deserves consideration for best baseball player ever. Quite frankly, Rose makes a run at Mays, but Mays was a better athelete so I went with him. But Rose is among my baseball runner-ups. My other runner-ups would be: Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, and Lou Gerhig.

I think my greatest athletes of all time will be very different to yours but I'm going to throw some names out there for you.

Oscar Pistorius, double amputee track star
Tanny Gray Thompson, wheelchair track star (although this may have something to do with having the twin of one of her chairs when I was younger, but seriously... she's a heavyweight in the
Mark Zupan and Troy Collins, Quad rugby players... heavyweights in their field of course.

I can't think of a fifth so sod it, Michael Jordan :P

Braaterz, I agree with you on Jordan, Barry, and Tiger. It's a shame that Barry retired so early. But, are we forgetting Wilt Chamberlain? The man had his famous 100 point game, and also he has 271 games with at least 40 points scored, 101 more than Jordan.

I would say:

Basketball: Wilt Chamberlain, Bull Russel, "Pistol" Pete Maravich, Jordan
Football: Jim Brown, Barry, Jerry Rice, Eric Dickerson, soon to be Adrian Peterson
Hockey: Don't care
Baseball: Hank Aaron

Really, I could get all five from Basketball, and problably from football.

I think some of you guys are getting caught up in the best players in their individual sports and not saying the most athletic - Jordan is/was a far superior athlete than Wilt, I mean yea Wilt was amazing with his point totals, but a lot of that was due to sheer size in comparison to the rest of players who played at that time

I do agree with you Braaterz. Wilt did go up against some small guys, and that is what contributed to his point totals. A majority, at least.
