View Full Version : NFL week one

Much to talk about this week, and still with 2 games left. The Vikes travel to Lambeau tonight, and still Denver and Oakland have to play. How about your Panthers, Savage? Scoring the game-winning TD with no seconds left. Also, a huge upset in Indy, with the Bears winning. An angry Colts team will travel to Minnesota next week.
As much as I like the Vikings, I have a feeling our offense will be the deciding factor, and the Defense will take advantage of Tarvaris Jackson's inexperience and force a few turnovers. They will stack 8 in the box to limit AP and force TJack to pass. Hell, I would do that too, seeing as TJack is still not so good, but getting better.
The Vikes D will also work out the Packers O, and for the first few series, will make Rodgers scared, but will eventually adapt throughout the night.
I will say... Pack 20, Vikes 10.
Alot of injuries this week. Brodie Croyle, Vince Young, Marion Barber, and the huge one, Tom Brady out for the year.
How do you feel about that, Envy?

That's rough for Tom, hate to see him go down like that. Two friends of mine had him as their starting QB on their fantasy football teams as well. :(
As for Indy, they looked rusty...really rusty...Harrison and his uncharacteristic second straight game with a fumble and Peyton's timing was off. Although, he hasn't played any this year so the timing will take a game or two to get it back. I'm still hoping they can pull out a solid season.

Good to know, and how about them Falcons? I think it's funny that everyone would say that Detriot would be a top contender in the NFC North, granted that it was only one game, but still, against the Falcons???

But Tom Brady? AHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, like at any point in the last ten years or so :P
That Chargers loss hurt deep. They looked like shit in the first 3 quarters, come back with 2 TDs, then let that dickhole Delhomme drive on them like they're nobodies, he doesn't even USE the last timeout, and then they score with no time left? That was so shitty to watch. Antonio Gates even dropped a football. He hadn't had a fumble in like almost 400 touches, and HE'S the one that drops that HUGE fumble? It's just part of being a Chargers fan, always watching your team lose games by a few points.
I scored like HALF the points in both of my fantasy leagues that I was projected LOL! I owe Kris a bottle of wine too after that loss. Can't wait for week two to put this shit in the dust!!

I envy you folks with teams that can at least complete. I'm stuck with the Rams. They don't even care anymore, they just play for the money.
The top 3 questions for the NFL season so for for me are:
1. Will Brett Favre lead the Jets to true success this season?
2. Are the Patriots in deep trouble?
3. Have the Giants really gained enough confidence to be one of the elite teams in the NFL?
OcR Bobcat

1. Depends on what you call true success. Playoff berth maybe.
2. Yes. No depth at QB what so ever.
3. No. I just don't believe it.

I wasn't really into football as much this year if you couldn't tell. Most people here in MA are over last year. I'm not. We reached the pinnacle of what I will ever see the patriots do. Championships are great but we had the chance to be the best team in football ever and we blew it. I don't think we will ever get that chance again.
That being said I still think the pats have great chance of making the playoffs for many years to come. Brady being out for the season is terrible, he's probably one of the top 10 players ever of course it sucks. Regardless pats make the playoffs, probably a 10-12 win season.

Hey...watch it now Skier.;) Everybody wants to hate on my QB like he's trash. He's not a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning but he's above average. He can make plays and he has been in a Super Bowl before so he can handle himself under pressure like this game (4 and 1 with :02 to go and down by 5). I know how it feels to see your team lose at the last second after having a decent comeback.
It does hurt but you really can't say it hurts deep until your team goes (1-15) or your team loses the Super Bowl by a field goal because your kicker kicks the ball out of bounds when you know they would have won if the game would have went into OT (Almost everyone (not friends but people that analyze the NFL) said if the game went into OT the Panthers would have won just because of the many comebacks they had that year which most ended in OT). I watched every single game that year we had 1 win and 15 losses. Now that's deep hurt when your team breaks the record for most losses and basicly the entire NFL thinks you're trash.:(
Just lay off the hate on my QB and Panthers.;) It was a good game though man and I have total respect for your Chargers for giving us an intense game.
Yeah, Pred...I was so excited when I saw Rosario catch that ball in the Endzone. I was just totally stunned. I thought Delhomme was going to get sacked when he pumped but he didn't. I didn't know the Bears beat the Colts until now so I'm a little worried since we have them this upcoming week. It would be great for Moose to beat his old team and not to mention go 2-0 without Smitty. I'm just pumped for this season. Best Panther squad I've seen ever. Bad thing is I can't watch most of the games since I work Sunday Nights and I need my sleep.:(

Ahh, the Danute-Randy days. I miss those days when they were bleeding purple.
Minnesota, I figured they would lose. TJack still has some improving to do, but throwing an INT while making a possible winning drive doesn't help. But, I pin this loss on our D and ST. Who punts a line drive punt to anyone? Kluwe's punt, terrible. Defense? Jared Allen wasn't anywhere. Maybe he had an off game, I don't know. But trading all of the picks and using alot of money on him, he better show up and play.
Best person: AP, All Day son.
Culpepper held Vikes records because he was throwing to Randy. Not hard for Brady to. Cassel should do alright throwing to Randy, he is the one that creates big plays.
OHH RANDY, COME BACK TO PURPLE AND GOLD.

a couple things...1. If Brady comes back and continues to win, he will be ONE OF THE BEST QB'S EVER..and this is coming from a 49ers fan, who already had 2 of the best QB'S ever..2nd, I had him starting on one of my fantasy teams also..not cool..and last, Daunte should come out of retirement even though hes not, because if he did they would win the championship

Ya'll are crazy. I understand your desire to hate on the best but lets break down the stats.
Titles:
Brady has been playing since 2001. During that time he's led the patriots to the playoffs every year except 2002 only because the Jets won the tie breaker game. He's won three super bowl titles and 4 afc championship titles.
Bart Starr: Before the superbowl erra but technically only has 2 superbowl wins.
Elway: 1 superbowl win.
Bradshaw: 4 superbowl wins.
Bob Griese: 2 superbowl wins.
Montana: 4 superbowl wins.
Broadway Joe: 1 superbowl win.
Farve: 1 superbowl win.
Unitas: 1 superbowl win.
Roger Staubach: 2 superbowl wins.
Manning: 1 superbowl win.
So already we can say that only two of your "examples" stand up to brady in regards to being able to win the big games and lets face it, stats are great but give me a second string no name quaterback that will come in mid season and lead his team to a superbowl win three times in the next 5 years over anyone.
But lets not forget he holds the record for most TD passes thrown, has lead his team to a perfect regular season(record), lead his team to a 22 regular season win streak(ongoing record) and has been undefeated at home for THREE YEARS.(on going record) So yes, Tom brady is one of the top 10 players of all time.

Brady's backup is going to steal his job like Brady did to Bledsoe. He might as well retire now because with the weapons and line Brady has had his whole career I could take the Patriots to the playoffs.

Ok, I never did remember the Chargers going 1-15 so sorry for letting my mouth run to quickly but still their is no need to call my QB what you called him. That's just bad sportsmanship Skier. Anyway, the game is over so their is no since in us fighting over the past. We cool Skier?
P.S. Envy, Elway actually won 2 Super Bowls to my knowledge. It was a back to back Super Bowl win when they had Terrell Davis (30) as their running back. I think it was the '98 and '99 seasons that they won the Super Bowls. Also, when you say Top 10 All-Time Players do you mean out of all sports or just in Football? Also do you mean at just the QB position or all postions in football?

As much as I hate Tom Brady and especially the Pats, I'd say Brady is probably in the Top 10 (Football and QB Position ONLY). Let's face it guys, he was a 6th or 7th round pick (not meant to be much) and then takes over a team with a respected QB at the time (not anymore. lol). Then wins 3 Super Bowls in 4 years and basicly carries on the torch from Bledsoe and makes it burn brighter.
Yes, Brady does have a spectacular team around him but which one of those QB's that Pimp named didn't? There is no such thing as a "One-Man Team". You see so many QB's in the league that have so much potential but they can't do it themselves and that's why there are 11 men on the field instead of 1. I've never seen a QB win a Super Bowl by himself. You know there is a group of people called the "Defense". I don't ever remember Favre ever stopping the other team on a 4th and 1 to take home the Lombardi Trophy.
I mean Brady has gotten a lot under his belt in the short amount of time he's done it in. However, I can see why you guys may think that the others are better then Brady. Yes, the three Super Bowls that the Pats won where all from game winning Field Goals and not Touchdowns like the many other QBs but you have to think, who lead them to the Super Bowl. Who threw those previous TDs before the game-winning kick? All in all I think he is in the top 10 (football and QB postion ONLY).
One last thing to leave you guys with. The majority of those QBs on the list you guys have rarely or never seen play so you've never seen the bad days or plays they had whereas Brady you've seen play his entire NFL career. When NFL programs show plays with those QBs it's always the good stuff that you see which in the end you perceive that QB as being the best since they have little to no mistakes. Just a thought.
P.S. I still hate the Pats and Brady so don't think that since I agreed with you Envy that I like them.;) I still hate them with a passion and have no respect for them until they can play fairly and not be so high and mighty.
Panthers in '08 baby!!!!
