First we would all like to apologize for the unscheduled uhh... "downtime" outcastreborn.com had these past 20 hours or so. Many people speculated this was due to the high increase in traffic from the Bungie.net spotlight. This was in fact not the case.

In a rare quinky dinky it just so happen a day after our spotlight our hosting server had a hard disk drive failure causing the entire hosting server(not just us) to crash. Due to many unforseen problems it took an extended period of time for them to move the old data to a new hard drive. You can read their response here: http://www.gigapros.com/forum/blog.php?b=35

We did lose about a days worth of information. It seems anything after around 9PM EST on Wednesday has been lost. But as you can see now we are back up and running smoothly. I have disabled a few features to keep the load average low as the server stabalizes. Associated(new members) will not see the chat box yet again, members Halo 3 service tag will not update if you have changed it recently and Who's on XBL is only updating once every 30 minutes.

Again we apologize for all the problems. It was out of our hands.

If you registered during the times we lost data and/or you are unable to login you will need to re-register.

My entire login was wiped from the servers, even though I joined at like 1:30 PM yesterday!

Because of the hard drive going down, its possible that info was wiped earlier, Envy was just speaking in general. We here at Outcast Reborn are sorry for your loss of login info, but as stated before, it was out of our reach. :(

I am here in Delaware though. Oh well, I only had like 5 posts, so the loss can be easily made up...

Good attitude towards things.

Agreed. We are terribly sorry for the loss in information. I have had about 5 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours trying to get things straightened out with the hosting company since late last night. I know Envy hasn't had much sleep either. We're just glad to be back and rolling.

Again, sorry for the loss of information, but it was out of our hands. :(

I am so glad this is back up, thanks guys for spending the time to do that.

I mean, I actually went outside for the first time in months, it was so weird and that bright thing in the sky hurt my eyes.

I'm glad it wasn't the server I thought it might of been because of the traffic but I was wrong.

Don't they run remote replication so even if there was a crash the server can still failover? Or does this hosting company only run a RAID 1. I mean a downtime this long even for small businesses can be a huge loss.

Edit: By the way, on their site they advertise that RAID they have will fully protect your data so you will never have downtime. However If they run a mirror RAID then there are bound to have some down time. Also RAID 1 is really old school now. Most hosts uses RAID 5 (which is very popular now).

Chatbox has been temporarily removed to lower the stress on the server.

The Overlords and Staff don't get enough credit for how much they put into this clan. I Realized that at meadowlands. Thanks again guys for everything and I know there is tons we take for granted here on the forums.

You are correct. They were very misleading with their advertising. Many, many people were beyond frustrated of this downtime that could have easily been avoided. Whenever you use RAID, it always has the potential to fail and no matter what RAID type, it takes a while to rebuild the array when you have a lot of storage (which they said they "had")...Envy and I will be investigating alternatives, no doubt to avoid such a recurrence in the future. ;)

So you guys are aware, we got "lucky" if you will.

There are still sites on our server that are not back online as of 12PM Sat.

Personally I don't think this hosting company is very reliable. First of all they use MySQL, which is completely free. They are not using any redundancy at all. RAID 1 is not going to protect any downtime if you don't have remote replication. If anything crashes it crashes it will take much longer to restore when compare to RAID 5. I care so much because things like these should not happen. Currently I am studying business continuity at EMC, which taught me about information storage and management. With this much downtime I think people, and we should consider better hosting.

Again, thanks for all the hard work all the admins are putting into getting the servers back online. Dealing with customer support must be such a pain. Thanks again.

I lost about 10 pages of my welcome thread, but its ok. They weren't necessary, it just means more pages to the new members, who are way more important than me. :]
