Is that safe at all? Even with the pool of water, the depth of the pool is questionably shallow that you might break your spine when you land from that height.

FACT: the faster you travel, the less impact you have on water. READ: water becomes more and more like a brick wall. This is why high calibur bullets won't make it past a few inches of water before breaking into tiny pieces and losing their momentum.
So by the looks of things, the water level is just right. He probably did hit the bottom, but not by much. Not anymore than you would if you jumped into three feet of water. Just a bump on his tail bone, that's all.
