OcR Valorius: Where are you from? How old are you? What do you do for a living?
OcR Patriot: I live near the small town of New Baltimore Michigan. It’s right on the shores of Lake St. Clair about 30 miles north of Detroit. I have never had a formal education. It was a struggle for me just to get through high school. As a result I have worked mostly manual labor factory job’s most of my life. 13 years ago I landed a custodial position with the local school district. Ironic isn’t it. I hated school with a passion and wind up working in one. But my family makes up for my educational and intellectual shortcomings tenfold. My wife works for Hewlett-Packard and is contracted out to General Motors doing tech support and trouble-shooting computer programs for the payroll department. My oldest son Christopher works for General Electric Aviation full time while going to grad school for his master’s in Computer Science. He also has a minor in astrophysics. Nathan is doing well as a first year student and hopes to get a degree in CS as well. Both boys attend Michigan Technological University.
You guys already know how old I am. 56
OcR Valorius: When did you first join OcR? How did you find OcR and what made you want to join?
OcR Patriot: Join date 6-8-2009. The thought had never occurred to me to join OcR. Nathan brought up the subject and suggested I put in an application. I was dumbfounded. Why would this clan of phenomenal Halo players accept me? How could I possibly fit in with these Commanders and Generals. I gave it much thought and decided to put in the app. Then he tells me “you have to be active on the forums” and I’m like “forums…what forums”. I had never been in contact with another human being via the internet aside from instant messaging my son at school before I got in OcR. Anyhow the rest is history. I would like to express my deep gratitude to Ubur Geek for planting the idea in my head and Prunk for his support.
OcR Valorius: What (funny, exciting) moment sticks out in your mind when you think of OcR?
OcR Patriot: No single moment sticks out in my mind but the forums are a real gift to behold. They cover a whole spectrum of emotions. Bragging rights, tech help, competition, venting, personal problems, and of course the humor. No one should take our web-site for granted. It’s the glue that holds us all together.
OcR Valorius: What's your favorite game-type to play with the clan?
OcR Patriot: Before I joined OcR I played TS exclusively. Never played big team, flag, oddball, customs nothing but TS. When I got in the clan these types of games were all new to me. I remember my first flag game. I grab our flag and try to plant it in the other teams base “IDIOT”. But I’m learning. You have all been patient with me and I welcome any and all inv. regardless of game-type.
OcR Valorius: What would you tell recruits or new members about OcR?
OcR Patriot: I would tell them they are very lucky to have the opportunity. Many apply but few are chosen. Enhanced game-play, competitive tournaments, recreation, and brotherhood it’s all here at OcR. Be aware. The staff is very tolerant but will rigorously enforce our Code of Conduct.
OcR Valorius: Do you have any life goals, or career goals that you would like to share? What drives you to complete these goals?
OcR Patriot: Time for life goals have come and gone. My plan was to be a rich guy but that never panned out. MLG Pro Circuit might be an option if I had the time.
Seriously I have truly been blessed. I have a wonderful wife of thirty years two fine sons a home and my dog. We like to camp and I love to read classic novels. There is a book I would recommend by a contemporary author , Gary Jennings, AZTEC . WARNING adult content and is not for the faint of heart.
OcR Valorius: Is there anything about yourself that you would change?
OcR Patriot: I was pretty much a screw-up in my younger years. Once I got married and had children realization set in and I tried to be a little more responsible.
OcR Valorius: What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done in real life?
OcR Patriot: The list is long. One incident that comes to mind is a wedding my wife and I attended several years ago. We arrived and were seated at a large round table with three elderly couples we weren’t acquainted with. The old farts in their expensive suits, the old bags dripping with diamonds and gold jewelry. At the center of the table sat a large cut glass bowl brimming with white- chocolate stars. Hunger being my constant companion I grab a handful and cram them in my mouth. I start to chew. CACKK………CAAAAAKKKKK. Crap this ain’t chocolate it’s BUTTER. I grab the neatly folded linen napkin and lowering my head promptly empty the contents of my mouth. Looking up there they all are staring at me like I’m a dog turd stuck on the bottom of their shoe.
OcR Valorius: So as one of only a few old timers we have around here, is there any old-timer, yell at the wipper-snappers, phrases you would like everyone to hear?
OcR Patriot: Lol. To you guy’s I’m old. To me people in their seventy’s and eighty’s are old. You have to put everything in perspective. But I do have a lot of life experience. You know the people at work or school that other people go to for advice or personal problems? Well I’m one of those people. Friends and co-workers come to me with issues they’re trying to resolve all the time. Not sure why but they consider me a voice of reason.
No I don’t have any snappy phrases that come to mind. But I will say this. I am impressed with those of you who are working hard at bettering yourself through education. Times are tough. There is a six to one applicant to job ratio right now. Keep up the good work.
OcR Valorius: Do you have any shout-outs you want to give?
OcR Patriot: Ah the shout- outs this is what I dreaded most. How do you express appreciation to so many? I’ll try to condense it as much as possible.
