OcR ROCKETR
05-19-2010, 02:09 PM
This month's race for Member of the Month was our closest ever. Right until the very last day it was split merely by one vote.
Our winner is an Honored Member who just recently gained that status within the past week. He's very deserving of the recognition as he has made strides to get other people involved in having a Good Game.
Without further ado, here's the interview.
OcR ROCKETR: Where are you from? How old are you? What do you do for a living?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I am originally from Texas, which may come as a surprise for many of you. I was born in a small town called Humble, just outside of Houston. However, I would hardly call myself a Texan seeing that I left the lone star state for the frozen tundra of Minnesota at the age of two. Since then, I have been able to proudly call myself a Minnesotan. Currently I reside in Mankato, about an hour southwest of Minneapolis, but I’m here for just one more week before I move back home to Minneapolis.
I am 21 right now, with my 22nd birthday right around the corner. As much fun as it is to be old enough to legally drink (in the states, you silly Canadians), it seems that all the good birthdays have passed me by. I can drive (16th birthday), I can vote (18th birthday), and now I can drink (21st birthday), what do I have left to do? Turn 40 and say I’m “over the hill”…
I am also a full-time college student, but that too is coming to an end very soon. Today is the very last day of classes, prior to finals (I am writing this in class). Then five days from now finals are done, and on the 30th we have graduation. Then I can kiss my college career goodbye, which makes me sufficiently sad. I loved my time at college, and I know all you guys that’s have yet to go are really going to enjoy it. Post graduation I am hoping to find employment relatively quickly, but we will just have to wait and see how that goes.
OcR ROCKETR: When did you first join OcR? How did you find OcR and what made you want to join?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I joined OcR a little over a year ago. To this day I credit one person for really brining me into the clan. Of course the person I’m talking about is the one and only, LouieBlack! I initially found out about OcR via the H3WM forums. After joining the boards over here and digging around, I asked Louie to give me his opinion of how things worked over here. Combining what I had heard and what I found about OcR with Louie’s words of wisdom, I came to the conclusion that this was the place for me. I’ve found in my time here, that we hold up to our reputation, and truly follow the core values of the clan. To be a part of this awesome community has really been a treat.
OcR ROCKETR: What's your favorite game-type to play with the clan?
OcR ROWEBLAST: Is this really a question for me? Big Team Battle, all day, every day baby! I must say, in playing some games with the griffballers, I have really come around on a game-type that I used to despise. But BTB will always be my favorite.
OcR ROCKETR: Do you have any life goals, or career goals that you would like to share? What drives you to complete these goals?
OcR ROWEBLAST: Career wise, right now the goal is to find a job. I’ve come to accept the fact that in all likelihood I will be a number cruncher. Call me a math geek, nerd, or whatever you wish, but I love math. I dig the statistics and trend analysis. Someday I would like to move past the basic entry analyst roles to a management position, and even potentially devise a method of business prediction that will catch on across multiple corporations (buts that’s a dream, more than anything).
I am a competitive and determined person and that what really drives me. It’s reflected in my golf game, above all other things. I don’t like losing, especially with things that I have direct control over, nor do I like being one-upped. I will see someone do something, think to myself, “If he/she can do that, why can’t I?”, then drive myself to do that something.
OcR ROCKETR: What would you tell recruits or new members about OcR?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I’m going to sound like a broken record here, so bear with me. Get involved. Get involved. Get involved. Did I mention getting involved? This doesn’t mean you have to go out and organize every event, or whatever else you may do. It means get involved with the fantastic people that call this place home.
This community is a family. Get to know some people on a first name basis, take a brand new person to the community and show them around. There are so many simple ways to get involved. In the end open yourself up to the community because if it isn’t allowed to see who you are, then I don’t think you could get a full appreciation for what it is… a family.
OcR ROCKETR: Is there anything about yourself that you would change?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I wish I were taller. I know, sounds dumb, but it’s true. I’m 5’6” on a good day, and I will not be getting any taller.
I don’t know if there is a whole lot I would change about my personality (I kind of like myself the way I am), but there are certainly parts of my history that I would like to go back and retry. I wont get into boring details, but I managed to pull a GPA of 1.6 my freshman year of college (I had fun, but I have paid for it ever since, literally… lost my scholarship).
Oh yeah, and about that knee thing. I would rather my ACL magically grow back.
OcR ROCKETR: What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever done in real life?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I’m struggling to think of a story that is not overly gross or inappropriate. Oh, I’ve got one for you guys that certainly isn’t the most embarrassing, but it is kind of funny…
I love to sing. I absolutely love to sing. Maybe some of you have noticed when I forget to mute my mic in the pre-game lobby? I also loved to sing I was a little Roweblaster, whatever the occasion. One of my favorite places to sing was while I was in the bathroom. Thus, I was dubbed the “happy pooper” by my mother. We now jump forward to three years ago, the first time I met my girlfriend’s parents. I brought her home from school (she lives about 8 hours from the college we go to) and stayed a few days with her family. Well after I left my girlfriend told me how her mom had heard singing coming from the other room on multiple occasions. Her mother was pleased that I felt comfortable enough to sing while meeting/staying at their place for the first time. The happy pooper strikes again!
So if you ever hear me singing in while we are in the lobby… well…
OcR ROCKETR: Do you have any shout-outs you want to give?
OcR ROWEBLAST: I’m actually going to pass on shout-outs to specific people. I know from experience that shout-outs tend to leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths that feel they deserve a shout out.
But, that being said, I want to give a shout out to a few groups of people. I want to give a shout-out to the people who made me feel at home when I was new here. Some of you have come and gone, while others have stayed around. Thanks for making me feel like a part of the family.
I also want to shout out to the people that keep me coming back day to day. If it weren’t for you guys (and girls as well), you wouldn’t hear from me quite as often as you already do. So I guess you only have yourselves to blame for the days I go on posting rampages!
Without naming names, you know if you deserve a shout out. This is your shout-out!
And of course, thanks to all the staff+, who make sure this place stays in one clean and organized, friendly, fun-loving piece!
That’s all from me! Rowe, out.
