OcR ROWEBLAST

It is with a bit of delay that I give you this month's member of month, OcR Cake! One of our grifballers, Cake loves beating people with big heavy sticks, being launched across the court, and long walks on the beach...
...and cake, or is it pie?
Without further ado, please let me introduce our June member of the month recipient, OcR Cake!
OcR ROWEBLAST: We’ll start easy… What’s you name? Do you have any nicknames you would share?
OcR Cake: My name is Joshua, and, for most of my life I've never really had any significant nicknames that have stuck with me-at least that I can remember - besides maybe "Joshy". I say for most of my life because ever since joining OcR and meeting certain members (I won't name names) I have been given several nicknames that have been forcefully implemented which include: Tranny, Emo, Maple, and Guido.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Maple? That's pretty rough...
Where are you from? How old are you?
OcR Cake: I'm a 19 year old Canadian, born in Niagara Falls Ontario and raised for a good portion of my life in small village a few kilometers away called Chippawa. I now currently reside on the west end of Niagara Falls about a 10 min drive away from the American border -and the falls itself.
OcR ROWEBLAST: What keeps you busy? What are you doing for a living?
OcR Cake: I'm currently riding out what remains of a 4 month summer, unemployed(though I've tried getting a job) and just trying to keep busy with my hobbies. If I'm not gaming on the PC or Xbox with all of you guys (and girls) I'm usually either developing and maintaining my own website, or doing some kind of graphic work in Photoshop and Illustrator. When I'm not on ridiculously long summer breaks, I'm a second year Engineering student at Niagara College.
OcR ROWEBLAST: When did you join our ranks here at OcR? How did you find out about OcR? What made you want to join and stay here?
OcR Cake: I first joined almost a year ago (August 5th) during the Bungie spotlight. It just so happened that I checked Bnet for the first time in forever and there you guys were, listed on the front page. I decided to read the post and the clan sounded really interesting, also I missed being in a clan from the halo 2 days so I decided to join the forums. After coming to the site, playing with a few of you and reading the code of conduct and everything else about OcR, I knew this is where I wanted to be, so about a week after I first joined, I applied to become a member. Unfortunately I didn't time it right -due to preparing for my first year of college- and ended up not being active during my recruit period and as such was denied. After that I disappeared, keeping busy with my first term of college and not really doing any gaming whatsoever. I had always planned on re applying after the two month waiting period but then applications got turned off and I gave up. It wasn't until around February/March that I came back and decided to re-apply. Luckily I made it this time...and the rest is history.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Which is your favorite game-type to play with the clan?
OcR Cake: Any playlist is my favorite when I'm playing with people from the clan, but if I had to chose one I would say its BtB. While I realize I haven't been playing much of it lately(sorry), I love the fact that we can have a lot of members playing together at once and not generally not worry about winning or losing. I also love the amount of shenanigans that usually occurs in BtB, it's made for some pretty hilarious moments.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Generally, what did you think of the Halo: Reach beta? Are you excited to see the final game release?
OcR Cake: Personally, I enjoyed the beta and despite a few issues I had fun for the most part. I'm very excited to see the final release, I have faith in Bungie, they've brought me 4 halo games so far that I've thoroughly enjoyed both in regards to campaign and multiplayer, I believe they will make the right calls and delivery another great halo experience.
OcR ROWEBLAST: On to the personal stuff… Any life or career goals you would like to share? Where would you like to be in 5 years? 10 years? Longer?
OcR Cake: When I'm done with College, I want to take a long vacation -something I haven't done in years- to either Japan or England. After that I want to move to New York and take a course there to earn my stamp and get qualified to get a job internationally as an Architect, I've always wanted to travel the world and knowing I have the ability to not only travel but get a job anywhere would be amazing. In 5 years I would like to have my own engineering firm with my cousin and some of my good friends who are in the same field of work as myself. In 10, I would hope to be married and have a family with someone and settle down, living in a house that I designed and helped build just for us. After that who knows, I'm hoping to somehow help the world through design and innovation, creating more earth friendly and cost effective housing solutions, so everyone can have a home. I have no clue what the future holds for me farther out, but hopefully I'll have my health and my family still.
OcR ROWEBLAST: What motivates you to succeed, both in gaming and in life in general?
OcR Cake: All the people whom are a part of my life - motivate me- whether they mean to or not. My friends -both online and in real life- are always a constant support and inspiration to me, they always keep me going, My family, who are always here for me no matter what, and even people I'm only associated with. They all make me strive to be a better person as well as succeed.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Sum yourself up in one word, and only one (no hyphenations either). Why did you choose that word?
OcR Cake: Quiet - Pretty self explanatory, I'm a quiet person by nature both in RL and XBL. I never talk when in parties unless I am called upon or absolutely required to talk. Granted there are a few here at OcR that I have opened up to -and they have become all too familiar with my talkative side ;P Some people hate me for it, some people like me for it, regardless it's who I am and it's not changing.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Anything you would like to change about yourself?
OcR Cake: I have a nasty habit of procrastination (sorry Rowe). I hate it, it keeps me from accomplishing the things in my life I need to or want to accomplish, and sometimes I feel it completely holds me back. It's something that I have been slowly working on; and, while I'm getting better at managing it, and it's happening a lot less than it used to, I still have moments where I procrastinate and disappoint myself and others.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Well you certainly lost a few days off of your time in the spotlight because of it... :P
What kind of advice would you give to new members about OcR?
OcR Cake: Just keep a positive attitude and be nice to everyone you meet here, take the time to get to know everyone -hold your judgments against them (don't keep your first impression of others, I am now friends with members who, at first, I thought I would never like)- and make your goal just have a good time playing xbox with all your new found brothers and sisters.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Story time. You’re in the spotlight. Embarrassing story about you. Go.
OcR Cake: When I was younger I used to be part of a club that went bowling on a regular basis. We would all go every Saturday with our leader and make teams and play each other. We were all fairly close and our leader would sometimes pick on a few of us so when we got mad he would tell us to give him a shot on his arm or his gut. Thus it was a pretty normal affair for some of us to give him a shot the first time we saw him. One Saturday I was running a bit late to the ally, so, all them were there already. I got my shoes on and ran over to them, and as I walked by him to the bowling lanes I gave my leader a quick punch right in the gut...only, I realized after doing so...that he wasn't my leader and instead some random dude who I mistook for being my leader cause I was in such a hurry. Needless to say my face got really red and we had an awkward moment of just starring at each other until I finally blurted out "oh, um sorry, I thought you were someone else". All my friends just laughed and I had to play that day in front of all of them AND that guy completely embarrassed.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Now it’s time for your last remarks… anything you want to say that we haven't yet covered?
OcR Cake: OcR is an amazing community of gamers and I can't think of any other place I'd rather be a part of. I want to thank every single member here at OcR for doing their respective part in making this such an amazing place to be. If it wasn't for you guys, I probably wouldn't be gaming on the 360 anymore. You all gave me a reason to come back, and you've given me a something to look forward to on XBL, something I haven't experienced since playing with my old clan in Halo 2.
OcR ROWEBLAST: Oh no! We ran out of room! See the first response for the last part of the interview!
